Royal Mail usually delivers Monday to Saturday between 7 am and 4:30 pm (extending up to 6 pm for parcels). Sunday deliveries are generally not standard, though some premium Tracked parcels are delivered on Sundays. [1]
Delivery Times & Days
- Weekdays: 7 am to 4:30 pm.
- Saturdays: Normal delivery days for letters and parcels.
- Sundays: Not a standard delivery day, though select premium services (like Tracked 24) may deliver on Sundays in certain areas.
- Impacted Areas: Delivery times aim for the majority of the UK but can take longer depending on destination postcodes. [1, 2]
Missed Deliveries & Redelivery
- Automatic Redelivery: If your parcel doesn’t fit through the letterbox or requires a signature and you aren’t in, Royal Mail automatically attempts a redelivery on the next working day. [1, 2, 3]
- Something For You Card: The postie will leave a calling card explaining the status of your parcel (e.g., left with a neighbour, in your Safeplace, or returned to the local Customer Service Point). [1]
- Arranging Redelivery: You can arrange a specific Redelivery day or a delivery to an alternate address, a neighbour, or a local Post Office branch using the Royal Mail Redelivery tool. [1, 2, 3]
Tracking & Missing Items
- Marked as Delivered but Missing: First check if it was left with a neighbour, left in a safe place, or if a family member signed for it. Occasionally, items are scanned as delivered prematurely due to a scanning error; allow 24 hours for it to physically show up. [1, 2]
- Lost or Delayed Mail: If your standard item hasn’t arrived, wait 10 working days (or 5 working days for Special Delivery) after the due date before classifying it as lost. You can check specific eligibility for compensation using the Royal Mail Claims Centre. [1, 2, 3, 4]
- Track Your Item: Enter your tracking reference number directly into the Royal Mail Track and Trace tool to check exactly where your parcel is on its journey. [1, 2]
- Local Edinburgh Information
If your item is returned to a local Customer Service Point, your closest branches serving EH1/EH2/EH3/EH4/EH5 areas are managed via the main local delivery offices. You can look up the exact opening times and locations for Customer Service Points near Leith using the Royal Mail Service Near You Finder.
